Fire Kills - You Can Prevent It Logo

We all try to prevent fires from starting in the home, but it only takes an unguarded or careless moment for a fire to start. Some simple steps can help minimise the risk of fire.

  • Have an escape plan in case of fire - and follow it
  • Install smoke alarms
  • Never leave candles unattended
  • Don't smoke in bed or when you are tired
  • Follow storage instructions for firework
  • Don't overload your sockets

South Wales Fire and rescue Service's Community Safety department runs a range of innovative projects. These initiatives are run from the stations, and local fire fighters are at the forefront of educating and informing the local communities.

One such initiative is Home Fire Safety Checks, where fire fighters help homeowners in planning escape routes and fitting smoke alarms. Homeowners can book an appointment by ringing 0800 169 1234 or visiting their local Fire Station.
